Low carbon ferromanganese

Low carbon ferromanganese from Zhenxin Metallurgy is a ferromanganese alloy with a maximum carbon content of 1.0%, and the manganese content of low carbon ferromanganese is generally between 70% and 80%. However, whether it is high, medium or low carbon ferromanganese, it is used for steelmaking, and the raw materials are silicomanganese, manganese ore, lime, etc.

The difference between low carbon ferromanganese and high carbon FeMn

Appearance :

High carbon ferromanganese is silvery and yellowish and has a glossy appearance.

Medium carbon ferromanganese is shiny and has a frosted texture.

Low carbon ferromanganese is colorful.

Although low carbon ferromanganese and high carbon ferromanganese are both alloy additives used in steel production, their application methods are different due to the difference in carbon content.

Application areas

1. Low carbon ferromanganese. Mainly used to make high strength steel, stainless steel, wear-resistant steel, spring steel, alloy steel, etc.

2. Medium carbon ferromanganese: Medium carbon ferromanganese is mainly used to produce various types of steel, such as structural steel, wear-resistant steel, weathering steel, etc.

3. High carbon ferromanganese: High carbon ferromanganese is widely used as a deoxidizer and silicon-manganese alloy additive in the metallurgical industry. High carbon ferromanganese can effectively reduce the element content of other impurities, improve the mechanical properties of steel, and is also used in casting and electronics industries.

Uses

Low carbon ferromanganese is usually used to adjust the manganese content in the production of steel to improve the hardness, strength and wear resistance of steel. High carbon ferromanganese can be used as a reducing agent in steel production and added to high-strength steel to increase the hardness and strength of the steel.

Physical properties

Low carbon ferromanganese has a lower melting point, weaker thermal strength, and a higher thermal expansion coefficient; while high carbon ferromanganese has higher thermal strength and better wear resistance.

The main uses of low carbon ferromanganese in steelmaking

Low carbon ferromanganese is generally used in steel smelting and alloy manufacturing.

  • In steel smelting, adding an appropriate amount of low carbon ferromanganese can effectively improve the  hardness of steel. And in smelting, low carbon ferromanganese can form oxide slag with ferrous oxide in molten iron, which can float on the surface of molten steel, thereby reducing the oxygen content in steel.
  • In the alloy manufacturing industry, low carbon ferromanganese can make various alloys, such as copper manganese alloy, aluminum manganese alloy, nickel manganese alloy, titanium manganese alloy. These alloys can be used in aviation and aerospace fields.

The latest production process of low carbon ferromanganese

Shaking furnace silicothermic method. Shaking furnace silicothermic method is the most commonly used method for producing low carbon ferromanganese in China. The following is the basic process of shaking furnace silicothermic method

1. Raw material preparation. Prepare manganese ore, coke, silica and limestone. Manganese ore requires a high manganese content and low impurity content, and coke is used as a reducing agent and fuel. Silica is used to provide a silicon source and react with oxygen in manganese ore to produce silicon dioxide. Limestone is used as a solvent to increase the basicity of slag and promote the reduction of manganese ore

2. Batching and mixing. Mix the raw materials thoroughly according to the ratio.

3. Shaking furnace operation. Pour the mixed raw materials into the shaking furnace and stir

4. Reduction. In the shaking furnace. coke is a reducing agent and reacts with oxygen in manganese ore to produce low carbon ferromanganese.
